EWM 202 · ENTER EWM
How does business demand become warehouse work?
EWM does not create warehouse work merely because a sales order or purchase order exists. The approved outbound or inbound delivery must become warehouse-relevant demand, create a credible Warehouse Request and item, and then be released into Warehouse Tasks and Warehouse Orders.
THE FIRST EWM BOUNDARY
Separate delivery hand-off from warehouse determination
First prove EWM received the intended delivery demand. Only then investigate process type, stock or destination determination, wave or release, task creation, and warehouse-order packaging. Recreating later work cannot correct a missing or incorrect request.
Establish the warehouse-relevant demand
An outbound delivery or inbound delivery carries the business reference, product, quantity, dates, and execution context that EWM must receive.
Create the Warehouse Request and item
Verify the reference, item data, warehouse relevance, status, quantity, dates, and processing context that arrived in EWM.
Make the request eligible for work
The configured release, wave, or inbound processing condition determines when the demand can create executable work.
Create and package physical work
Warehouse Tasks define the atomic movement; warehouse-order creation groups eligible tasks for a worker or resource.
CHECK THE RIGHT BOUNDARY
Delivery exists, but warehouse work does not
Use the first missing object to choose the owner. A missing Warehouse Request is a hand-off issue; an existing request without a Warehouse Task is a release or determination issue.
Check delivery relevance, organizational and warehouse assignment, item status, integration or replication evidence, queues/messages, and application logs.
Compare delivery reference, product, quantity, dates, priority, item status, and the source-change sequence before rebuilding work.
Check warehouse-process type, release or wave state, stock or destination prerequisites, blocks, task creation, queue, and warehouse-order rule.
WAREHOUSE MOMENT
An outbound delivery is visible, but picking cannot start
Confirm the outbound Warehouse Request and item before checking stock or a pick strategy. If the request exists, verify release or wave eligibility, then trace Warehouse Task creation and Warehouse Order assignment. This prevents an integration failure from being misdiagnosed as a source-stock problem.
- Delivery and EWM references agree
- The first missing object identifies the boundary
- Release and determination are checked only after the hand-off
- WT and WO remain explainable to the floor
Trace the request and released work back to the rules that chose a bin, task, queue, or work package.
