RELEASEControl what the project is allowed to do next

PS 202 ยท STATUS & RELEASE

How do project status and release control execution?

A project can be valid and funded while its next action remains prohibited. Status, approval, budget, authorization, and dependent-object state govern different permissions.

THE DECISION

What is this project object allowed to do now?

Project and WBS status control lifecycle; budget availability controls authority to consume; approvals and authorizations control who may act. Do not use a status override to hide an unresolved budget or approval condition.

01DEFINE

Set lifecycle

Create project and WBS objects with the required status profile.

02AUTHORIZE

Approve scope

Make scope, budget, and release authority explicit.

03RELEASE

Permit work

Enable the appropriate execution, procurement, posting, or billing successor.

04PROTECT

Hold or close safely

Use controlled holds, completion, and closure without bypassing obligations.

Example

A WBS cannot be released although its plan is complete. Trace the project profile, status, approved budget, availability-control result, authorization, and dependent-object state. Correct the failed condition, not the visible status alone.
