SPECIAL TOPICClose operational and financial obligations together

PS 202 ยท PROJECT CLOSURE

How does a project close without leaving operational or financial residue?

Completion is a controlled decision, not simply a status. Work, commitments, inventory, billing, balances, period-end results, settlement, and receiver ownership must agree before final closure.

THE DECISION

What remains open, and who owns it?

Operational completion, technical completion, financial settlement, and final closure are separate gates. A project may be physically complete while procurement, billing, capitalization, or margin recognition remains open.

CLOSURE EVIDENCE

Close from open evidence inward

EXECUTION

Activities, milestones, confirmations, components, services, and handover.

COMMITMENTS

Purchase orders, reservations, project stock, invoices, and supplier obligations.

FINANCE

Actuals, revenue, period end, variance, settlement, receiver, and residual balance.

Example

Rather than force final status, trace open commitments, unbilled work, unprocessed period-end results, and settlement receivers. Close or transfer each owned obligation, then prove the project has no unsupported balance.
