FP&A 202 · CAPABILITY

How does FP&A connect to SAP without replacing other owners?

FP&A combines governed actuals and operational drivers into forward-looking views while keeping accounting, controlling, operational planning, and cash ownership traceable.

FP&A ROLE

What this capability is for

SAP S/4HANA can provide financial and management-accounting actuals and accept supported plan data; SAP Analytics Cloud can provide planning models, versions, workflows, calculations, stories, and scenarios. Other products or processes may own demand, workforce, consolidation, tax, or treasury. The target architecture must state the system of record for each fact.

WORKING FLOW

Move from question to controlled result

01MAP

Assign system and data ownership

For every account, master-data dimension, actual, plan, driver, rate, and scenario, name the source, target, steward, refresh, and reconciliation rule.

02LOAD

Bring in governed actuals and drivers

Validate completeness, grain, mapping, sign, units, currencies, hierarchies, timestamps, and late-change treatment before planning begins.

03PLAN

Calculate in the approved planning layer

Use controlled versions, data actions, allocations, currency logic, workflows, and stories appropriate to the selected SAP landscape.

04WRITE BACK

Return only approved results

Where supported and required, publish approved plan data through governed integration, then reconcile the receiving system and protect the audit trail.

CONTROL POINTS

What makes the result trustworthy?

System of record

S/4HANA actuals, CO product cost, workforce assumptions, demand plans, treasury forecasts, and FP&A scenarios are not interchangeable. Define authoritative ownership by data type.

Integration contract

Document extraction scope, keys, grain, mappings, currency and unit treatment, refresh, write-back behavior, error handling, security, and reconciliation.

Product and release boundary

Available content, connections, applications, APIs, and planning features vary by SAP product edition and release. Validate the approved target landscape before designing the process.

DECISION EVIDENCE

Retain the assumptions behind the number

A result is reusable only when another person can understand its source, version, ownership, and decision context.

OWNERSHIP

Data domain, business owner, system of record, steward, consumer, and change authority.

INTERFACE

Source object, target model, key, grain, mapping, frequency, controls, job log, and error route.

RECONCILIATION

Source total, transferred total, rejected population, target total, write-back status, and sign-off.

WORKED EXAMPLE

An integrated planning landscape

S/4HANA supplies actual P&L, cost-center, product-cost, project, and profitability detail. Commercial and workforce owners supply operational assumptions. SAP Analytics Cloud holds controlled planning versions and scenarios. Approved financial-plan results are written back only where the selected integration supports it, with totals reconciled on both sides.

  • Ownership is explicit
  • Grain is compatible
  • Failures are routed
  • Write-back reconciles
