MASTER DATA · FOUNDATION
What is master data?
Master data describes reusable business objects that many transactions depend on. Existence is only the first test: the record must also have the right organizational extension, controlled values, and transaction evidence.
THE SHARED MODEL
Read every master through four questions
What is it?
Stable identifiers and descriptive facts define the product, party, account, asset, or organizational object.
Where may it operate?
Company code, plant, purchasing organization, sales area, storage, valuation, and other segments establish scope.
What does it determine?
Transactions copy or derive payment, tax, delivery, planning, pricing, valuation, and account values.
Is it ready?
Display the master, run a controlled transaction, and trace the resulting document and posting.
THE BIG THREE

Each object now has a dedicated guide so field ownership and process evidence do not get mixed together.
